There is not much better than a good deal and let me tell you I got them with these. These jeans I found for 6 dollars, this shirt (which is identical to a Free People shirt) was 11 and these shoes were 5 dollars, life doesn’t get much better than that. I think subtle yet fun printed jeans bring a little sassiness into any outfit you wear. Today it was 40 degrees when it was normally been -14 I wanted to not even wear a jacket it felt so warm (I never ever thought I would say that). I think the best finds are clothes that you can dress down or dress up and this shirt has a little bit of both. You can throw it on with denim or with a leather skater skirt and the best part is it can be layered for winter or worn in the summer because it is so light. If you can’t, this freezing little girl right here is ready for some warmer weather.
Polka Dots, no matter the season are a fantastic way to make something stand out. You can wear a simple polka dot summer dress or a comfy polka dot winter sweater. Throwing on a blazer over any shirt brings a causal outfit to a more business casual perspective. However, now a days the blazers are so diverse and unique that you can whip a blazer out with anything. Hunter rainboots have become an essential in the midst of freezing cold rain or snow. They may be a little more on the pricy side but I have worn them so much that they were worth it all. The best part is that you can throw them on with leggings and a Nike pullover or with a peacoat and your nicest jeans. They are so versatile. A little polka dots and a little color bring any gloomy winter day some light.
This hat has lasted so many years and never fails. It has gone from “looking like Madeline” to “a British Cop” to “something Blair from Gossip Girl would wear” however I like it solely because I can never ever find hats that fit my head and this one does (that’s sad but so true). This jacket I found in Chicago and got it for 12 dollars, what a steal, I know! As the ankle boots grow more popular I adore them ever more and more. They give you more outfit options than tall boots and the ability to dress them up or down quite well. None less these, the winter season is coming to an end soon (even though it fills like it will never end) and boots will be put away in your closet till october. But now is the time! Go get the boots you love because I promise they will be on sale within the next couple weeks! The best way to shop for certain seasons is when its a different season. So shop for summer now and winter in a couple of months. That is how you will find the steals. Till then drink some hot chocolate, stay warm and go sled!
And thank you to Haylee and Hannah Fisher for bearing the cold and helping with the shoot. Life is always better with a few friends by your side. You both rock!
Today’s weather was a little on the brutal side, as you can probably tell my hands are frozen, numb, and bright red. But they say beauty is pain right? Which sort of sums up the world of fashion. Some days sweatpants and nikes are just a much more pleasing option and I will be the first to admit it but somedays you just have to squeeze into the jeans and put on your earrings. This cardigan is probably the greatest deal I ever have found in the history of the world. It was originally 55 and I got in for 4.95…I don’t think deals get much better than that. I think the best purchases you can make are cardigans and jackets because they have the ability to fluctuate between seasons along with the ability to make the pieces you wear it with work for multiple seasons. This creme top is one of my favorites in the summer but when I throw it with a winter colored jacket/cardigan it can become one of my favorite winter tops too. This bag was a dollar and twenty-five cents (…I know, such a dent in my wallet) at Goodwill and I was way too thrilled when I found it. Despite the cold and the snow, if you find the right coat and the right boots you can fight any weather.
I have learned that the older I get the less I try to match colors perfectly. And the more I match less, I realize that’s what the fun of fashion is. It’s knowing what colors can go with which and what outfits just make you feel fun and confident when you have on. I have always been one to feel a little off with wearing flats and tights with a skirt because I feel slightly like a ballerina but I’ve come to enjoy the style a little more. I have also always felt edgy wearing a leather jacket but if you wear it with the right colors and fabrics you don’t look too dark and motorcycly 🙂 lastly my photographer Molly was carrying this bag and I was in love, it is exquisite and very easy for any season at all! Fashion is all about the risks you take, so what I advise to you is to forget what you assume people might think and strut what you love.
Purple Jacket- Goodwill, Tweed Jacket- Free People, Dress- Figleaf, Tights, Boots, and socks- Target, Purple Purse- Coach, Black Purse- Steve Madden, Watch- Charming Charlie’s, Coral Bracelet- Nan Lee, Earrings- Altar’d State
Contrary to how nice it looks outside in the pictures, it felt like 5 degrees. But none the less, if the sun is shining you can bet on me to be wearing colors out in the crisp air. This tweed jacket is Free People and is honestly one of the most fun jackets I can say I have worn. It’s easy to throw on over a dress like this or is also enough of a statement to just wear with jeans, allowing it to be the eye catcher. The purple jacket on the other hand was a lucky find at Good Will and is one of those boxier styled coats you always see in those famous NYC fashion week posts (obviously those may be a tad further down on the price spectrum). This dress is such a versatile piece that you can dress up, dress down and wear it all around. These 2 purses are such practical sizes that make them so easy for any occasion. You can stick a camera and gloves in them for a freezing day or throw a water bottle, sunscreen and sunglasses in them for a toasty summer afternoon. When I first bought these boots I had no idea at all what I would wear them with but now I could not be happier with my purchase. I wear them with jeans and a simple shirt, the most festive pea coats or with statement tights like these. Winter is always the hardest season for me because I am not always the black, grey and brown girl. My closet, room and everyday outfit no matter the season are brights, pastels, all shades of creme and jeweled tones. Color is the easiest way to happiness and don’t forget it.
By the way Simply Poised is now on Instagram all on it’s own at @simplypoised as well as on Facebook as Simply Poised !
Contrary to what it may seem in these pictures, we were actually not too freezing in the midst of all this. Coming back to snow and crisp air has actually been quite fun. This jacket was the best deal you could possibly find. Although I sincerely wish it was mine, it is actually my roommate Rachel’s. I adore it. We found it for 4 dollars in Goodwill…even though it is Merona from Target; it doesn’t get much better than that. The purse is our across the hall friend Hannah’s. She got in from a small boutique in Spain last summer and I steal it as much as possible. Polka Dots are the things I thought I would grow out of with age but as I get older I love them more and more. This dress is so light, easy and simply to throw on with fun colored tights and any shoes you want. Jessica Simpson sells the greatest boots at Nordstrom and when my mom told me at the beginning of the school year that I was allowed to pick a pair to bring up north to last the cold winters I could not have been more excited. The bracelet I’m wearing is a Nepal bracelet, which gives back to a charity every time you buy one. Lastly the necklace is from some small store called Gabriel Brother’s and was of course a steal. I believe in shopping sales and never paying more than necessary for anything. The more sales you find the more you can enjoy your purchases. Whether well off or not well off at all, there is no reason not to shop for the steals and deals.
Kimono- Forever 21, Lace Top- Francesca’s, Jeans- American Eagle, Purse- Coach, Flats- Target, Necklace- My Mema’s
Try- A circle skirt and camisole with boots, or a peasant flared top, colored jeans, statement necklace, a clutch.
The closer spring gets the more Kimono Cardigans are appearing and honestly I am slightly loving it. They are just enough to catch someone’s eye yet subtle enough that someone who isn’t full of fashion bravery could wear it and feel good in their skin. You can find them in all shapes, sizes and colors. The Coach purple has not left my side since I got it. It is just the right color to serve a purpose in all seasons; as well as just the right size to travel with me whenever i may go. Never think because of the winter season that color has to be stripped from your wardrobe. It is just finding the right tones of Plums, Jewels, Forest Greens, and Crisp Oranges. Color isn’t afraid of the winter so don’t let your winter wardrobe be afraid of the color.
Sweater- Forever 21 Jeans- JCP Flats- Target Bracelet- The Mustache Boutique in Fayetteville, Arkansas (also sold at Altar’d State)
What’s better than an American sweater to be patriotic and fashionable? This sweater is the easiest piece to just throw on and wear any day. I always love patriotic apparel but I can never find anything super fun to wear that isn’t my Texas flag athletic shorts or those typical American flag highwaisted shorts. These jeans are such lazy day pants and they look like I have been painting all day but they are such a mix of my crazy, hectic, colorful self. I love them because you can place them with a nicer piece to dress them up or throw on a T-shirt, baseball cap and converse to play the role of a soccer mom. You will see that I wear these flats an unhealthy amount due to the fact that they are so neutral, comfortable and great on the go. Lastly the paper beaded bracelet also known as a 31 BITS bracelet is Handmade of 100% recycled paper by Ugandan women trying to make a difference in their lives. Little accessories like that are my favorite things to find in the midst of searching; what is better than getting something new and giving back?
